Transportation and Accommodations for MoodleMoot
by CA Edington - Sunday, 8 February 2009, 09:22 AM
Hello, MoodleMooters!

Right now I'm attempting to book a hotel but finding it challenging to do online, in spite of the great resources set up for us by our coordinators.

When I go to http://www.japaneselifestyle.com.au/travel/hakodate.htm, I simply get a spinning graphic. I've already spent quite some time on another site but have had difficulty navigating it.

Anyone have a suggestion for a CHEAP hotel, like a business hotel? With just a bed and bathroom? Maybe near the JR station? I'd also be willing to share with another woman (sorry, guys), if someone wants to go halvsies.

I may take the same JR as Don Hinkelman:
2/15 JR Sapporo 7:00 a.m. -->> 10:10 Hakodate
2/16 JR Hakodate 15:23 a.m. -->> 18:59 Sapporo

Are others of you also taking the JR? If so, at the same times? Any alternatives?

I'm looking forward to hearing from other MoodleMooters and seeing you in Hakodate.

CA (who's never been to Hakodate and is not the most seasoned of travelers)

Hi, CA

It's my first time to visit to Hakodate, but my friend recommend Fitness Hotel 330 Hakodate:http://stay.hakonavi.ne.jp/hakodate/330hakodate/index.html

It is very close to the Hakodate station and its cheap room charge includes the fee to use the sport gym and swimming pool, though the pool is closed for cleaning on 15th & 16& of every month.

Losir Hotel Hakodate is much closer to the station and looks very nice but as cheep as the Fitness Hotel 330. http://www.solarehotels.com/loisir/hotel-hakodate/

I am coming to Hakodate on the 14th from Niigata by way of Tokyo.  See you at the Moodle Moot on Sunday.笑顔

One of my private students gave me more information about the JR from Sapporo to Hakodate and back, as follows:

If you buy the regular ticket for round trip between Sapporo and Hakodate, it costs¥17,180 (without reserved seat:\16,580 )

R-kippu(Rきっぷ)is ¥14400 (reserved seats fee included).
The only one difference from the regular one is that you have to come back to Sapporo within 6 days.
You can buy an R-kippu with the return trip ticket open at Sapporo Station on Saturday. On the day of return, go to the counter (Midori-no-madoguchi みどりの窓口) , choose the train, and get the reserved seat ticket by showing your R-kippu at the Hakodate JR station.

If you choose the trains both way from the below tables, a bigger discount is available. It is named Waridoku kippu(割得きっぷ)and costs ¥12000. But these trains leave early morning or arrive late at night.
