Japanese filenames & uploading
by Bob Gettings - Tuesday, 6 April 2010, 11:35 AM

Hi!

One of our Moodle groups ran into a problem with uploading files. A teacher wants students to upload files with a Japanese filename, for example ボブ.doc

The file can be uploaded but the filename is changed to __.doc

My solution to the problem is to train students to write filenames in romaji.

But the teacher feels that it is important to have Japanese filenames. Has anyone been successful in modifying Moodle to accept Japanese filenames? How? Was it easy?

Yoroshiku!

Bob

Hi Bob,
I've encountered the same problem, and used the same romaji solution.
I'm not a Moodle guru, but I doubt allowing Japanese filenames is an easy fix.
Most likely a programmer would have to be involved?

Cheers,
Joel
